Join us – Work in Space…

Welcome to the future of working, where we’re light years ahead in making even the most limited of workplaces feel infinitely spacious. Plus, we do it all with superior quality and a clean aesthetic to really help make your people feel like they’re working in space.

Check out our latest blog for top tips on making your space work better for you…

See the light

Where space is a premium, light can make all the difference. If you have windows, make the most of them by keeping them clean, clear and unobstructed, making them a feature around which you can plan bespoke working areas and storage. Keeping your colour scheme light (if not white) will also enhance the natural light allowing it to fill the space.

Think off the wall

Think shelves, think storage pockets, think seating, think about this! Using wall space in this way leaves more floor space free to use in smarter ways. If your space is big enough or needs to be divided to create separate working areas, think about making that wall or divider store stuff too.

You can hot desk… or you can get hot desks!

Reducing the number of desks in your space and allowing people to work flexibly is a popular solution to limited office space. Another one is to be streamline your desk options.

Desks can take up most of your office space, so it’s a good idea to make them as space efficient as possible, fitting more in while also aiming to retain a sense of space and style. We always recommend going for white as it is sleek, looks smarter for longer and helps to give a feeling of spaciousness.

Live in colour

White is one thing: it’s modern, gives a sense of space and is calming. But too much can be underwhelming. Adding colour is one way to add energy to the work space, helping to encourage creativity and productivity. If you have a brand colour scheme, it’s also a way to reinforce and encourage engagement with employees. Take elements of your colour ways and use them sparingly to bring your brand to life (work!) in the most stylish way.

Get Graphic

Floor to ceiling, or to add interest to an otherwise ordinary corner, graphics are a great way to personalise your space and make a big statement. Think about bringing your brand to life in the biggest possible way, or bringing the outside in with a feature wall of an outdoors scene: meaning you can go to the beach, mountain top or forest every day!

Go Bespoke

Buying shelves (or any kind of storage!) off the shelf for a small space is never going to make the most of every inch. You’ll have gaps and overlaps, useless spaces and voids that just gather dust. It doesn’t look right, feel right or work right. Commissioning bespoke office furniture just for you has all kinds of benefits: you get exactly what you want, every inch of space is utilised to best effect and your people will enjoy coming to work as they’ll feel like they’re being invested in.

Get Creative with Space

Walls aren’t just great for creating a run of smart storage – you can also make it a functional space. Using our Cosy Cove, for example, you can make an informal meeting area, making the most of what might otherwise be unused space and giving your people more opportunities to work flexibly.

Go Green

A study by the new University of Technology, Sydney, suggests that plants in the workplace significantly reduce stress, tension, depression and fatigue. A further study by the University of Exeter suggests productivity jumps 15% when previously ‘lean’ work environments are filled with just a handful of houseplants. Here at James Tobias, we’ve gone one stage further and installed a moss wall which makes for a healthier and more interesting work space.
