What’s your job title? And how long have you worked for James Tobias?
I am the Technical Design Manager and I have been here for 5 years.
What does that actually mean? What does your role entail?
My role is split between working on the more complex and specialist projects, and managing internal product development.
What does a normal day look like for you?
It varies significantly from intense involvement in larger projects, spending time in the factory prototyping and checking bespoke projects, and spending time refining and improving product detail and the processes between the projects office and factory
How does your role work with the wider James Tobias team?
I discuss with the sales team options for non-standard requests so we can offer a solution that works for all parties, I receive feedback from the fitters so site issues can be considered for future installations, I work closely with the factory and projects team to assist with non-standard requirements and I create bespoke CNC programs for the drill and punch machinery.
Who do you do most of your work for?
Primarily the work I do ultimately passes onwards into production.
How do you make sure that you live up to the James Tobias values in your own work?
Having come from a design background I always consider how something will look and function as well as how it will be made and fitted. It’s important for me to ensure the final product is the right product and I will work with our customers as far as possible to achieve this.

If you were to have one James Tobias product in your own home, what would it be and why?
As I work on non-standard projects I would have a fair amount of license! But I would definitely go with something from the Trim range as it is surprisingly diverse and adaptable, offering storage and display solutions which would suit the home as much as the office.
Finally, when you’re not creating the UK’s leading storage solutions, what keeps you busy?
I am a keen DIYer and have been upgrading my home for the last two years around having a young family.
