What’s your job title? And how long have you worked for James Tobias?
I am a Project Engineer and I have been at James Tobias since November 2015.
What does that actually mean? What does your role entail?
Once the order has been placed and the survey of site has arrived to us in the office, I will draw this and place the product sold into the space measured, engineering around obstacles to ensure our product is fitted to the customer’s satisfaction. Once the drawing is complete we will send this to the client for their approval. Once approved, we will then produce a cutting list of the approved product for manufacturing, by giving the correct material sizes and manufacturing process to take. In some occasions, we are tasked with creating bespoke CNC drilling & punch programs.
What does a normal day look like for you?
A normal day for me, would be doing drawings, cutting lists, programming and liaising with colleagues and customers via email or telephone.
How does your role work with the wider James Tobias team?
Project Engineers are the central point of contact for all departments at James Tobias, providing technical support for the fitters and factory as well as sales and operations. Where fitters require technical support on site, they will contact us to resolve issues together. However in some occasions, we require to talk to the fitters in problem solving exercises to see what they are able to fit when evaluating options.
Who do you do most of your work for?
Office fit out companies, main and sub-contractors along with architects.
How do you make sure that you live up to the James Tobias values in your own work?
As a Project Engineer I am always putting the customer first by ensuring I engineer a product to their satisfaction and needs, to the best of our ability. I also like to provide a helpful and educating experience for our customers making specifications as clear and precise, in the hope they can take an understanding from our drawings to when the product is installed and future orders.
If you had the chance to tell your clients one thing about James Tobias what would it be and why?
We are a fantastic company that often delivers high end, bespoke products to a diverse marketplace. We also can hold our own at the bar and on a football pitch!
If you were to have one James Tobias product in your own home, what would it be and why?
One thing about me is, I’m not a fan of the digital age when it comes to entertainment. We live in a world where streaming and downloads are taking over however I still own and add to my immense collection of CD’s & DVDs. So if I was to choose to have a James Tobias product in my own home, this would be our open fronted shelving units (SW11). The advantage to using our StorageWall is we can engineer the product to fit the space you require and in the finish you desire from our range.
Finally, when you’re not creating the UK’s leading storage solutions, what keeps you busy?
So when I’m not at work, I’m frequently travelling all around the UK, supporting Bristol City FC at Home and Away matches, I have currently attended 15 of the 92 grounds in the UK. I have attended over 75 different matches over the last 2 years including our Semi Final against 2017-18 Premier League Champions, Manchester City. A side from Football, I am a big fan of Electronic Dance Music, constantly listening to music at any given opportunity and go to see my favourite artists live!
