Meet George, our Apprentice Project Engineer

What’s your job title? And how long have you worked for James Tobias?

I am an Apprentice Project Engineer and have been working for James Tobias since September 2017

What does that actually mean? What does your role entail?

I handle the technical aspects of project following a survey up until the product has been installed. This involves drawing and sending the specification to a client and making any changes that are required as their requirements evolve.

I also produce the cutting lists for the factory as well as setting up drill programs for any non-standard projects when required. I have also started learning to set up our punch programing for our metalwork.

I am also gradually widening my knowledge of the product and the functionality of it as well as understanding how to adapt our product for more bespoke jobs.

What does a normal day look like for you?

A normal day will consist of project management which involves handling all of the technical aspects of a job from the point of survey to the completion of a project.

How does your role work with the wider James Tobias team?

I work with the majority of the company although the departments that I work closest with are Sales, Operations, Procurement and Production.

Who do you do most of your work for?

The Majority of my work revolves around the clients and working with them to clarify the finer detail of their project but I also spend a lot of time with Sales, Operations and Production.

How do you make sure that you live up to the James Tobias values in your own work?

I strive to ensure that the finer detail of a project is met and will work with clients to meet their requirements in the best possible way. As a project engineer I also have to consider the functionality of a product and work to achieve the best ratio of practical and aesthetically pleasing as possible.

If you had the chance to tell your clients one thing about James Tobias what would it be and why?

This would have to be the adaptability of our product as we offer a very diverse range of options from our standard StorageWall to bespoke jobs as well as our ever widening range with new products such as Quebix and Tea points.

If you were to have one James Tobias product in your own home, what would it be and why?

I would most likely choose a range of items from our Trim System as it easily adaptable and would work nicely in a home environment.

Finally, when you’re not creating the UK’s leading storage solutions, what keeps you busy?

I play a lot of sport which mainly consists of handball where I play for Bristol in the National League South as well as representing England at U18 level. Aside from this I will look to do anything to keep me active from weightlifting to running.
