What’s your job title? And how long have you worked for James Tobias?
My role within James Tobias is Head of Operations. I joined the company back in September 2015.
What does that actually mean? What does your role entail?
I manage the installation scheduling, fitting, customer care and associated transport and distribution of projects and materials with a team of 11 fitters, a full-time driver, all done with the help of my wonderful Operations Administrator, Olivia.
What does a normal day look like for you?
In Operations, I don’t think we have such a thing as a ‘normal day’. My days are extremely varied and often hectic, depending on what deliveries are going out, what and where the fitters are installing and also dealing with any rescheduled projects.
How does your role work with the wider James Tobias team?
I work closely with all departments in James Tobias, from the Sales team, when an initial installation date enquiry comes in, through to the Factory Manager when organising the transport and distribution of projects. Within our open plan office, both Denise in Procurement and Jon in Projects are within earshot, so we are constantly keeping abreast of project statuses and any issues or changes that are occurring.
Who do you do most of your work for?
The people that are directly affected by my work are our fitters, clients and the factory. My main aim is to get the correct project to site as per the client’s requirements and fitted satisfactorily, first time.
How do you make sure that you live up to the James Tobias values in your own work?
Excellent customer service is at the forefront of everything we do in Operations, ensuring our customers’ expectations are fulfilled.
If you had the chance to tell your clients one thing about James Tobias what would it be and why?
Without sounding cheesy, James Tobias really is a great place to work, with its family values and staff that are fully committed to the same end goals of designing, selling, producing and installing quality products.
If you were to have one James Tobias product in your own home, what would it be and why?
I would have an SW1 standard Aria unit as it offers such varied storage options with shelves, Roll out filing frames etc. and can be made to ceiling or to a specified height to suit the room or existing furniture.
Finally, when you’re not creating the UK’s leading storage solutions, what keeps you busy?
I’m a bit of a petrol head and love all things motor sport including being a member of BRISCA Heritage where I race and show my 1950’s V8 Ford Pilot stock car. I also love to ski and as a family we try to go a least once a year, usually to Italy where I can enjoy another of my hobbies, eating good food and drinking red wine!
